![]() ![]() Peter Del Tredici's lushly illustrated field guide to wild urban plants of the northeastern United States is the first of its kind. Around the world, wild plants help to make urban environments more habitable for people. On their own and free of charge, these plants provide ecological services including temperature reduction, oxygen production, carbon storage, food and habitat for wildlife, pollution mitigation, and erosion control on slopes. However, there are a number of plants that manage to grow spontaneously in sidewalk cracks and roadside meridians, flourish along chain-link fences and railroad tracks, line the banks of streams and rivers, and emerge in the midst of landscape plantings and trampled lawns. Characterized by an abundance of pavement, reflected heat, polluted air and contaminated soil, our cities and towns may seem harsh and unwelcoming to vegetation. ![]()

This comes from the author’s mission to keep her supernatural characters from growing too powerful: Mercy was introduced in the 2006 novel Moon Called, and she is often called upon to use her wits-instead of superpowers. She lives and works in a version of the Tri-Cities that also includes werewolves, vampires, and an assortment of fae. There’s also a spin off series named Alpha and Omega that takes place in the same universe. This urban fantasy series from Patricia Briggs stars shape-shifting mechanic Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson, who can take the form of a coyote at will. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |a Initial Bemis load m2btab.test019 in 2019. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. Packed full of case histories and thought-provoking anecdotes, it shows, among other things, how one Australian scientist convinced the world he’d discovered the cause of stomach ulcers by drinking a glass filled with bacteria, how a gifted sports reporter got people to watch a football match by showing them the outside of the stadium, and how high-concept pitches such as ‘Jaws on a spaceship’ (Alien) and ‘Die Hard on a bus’ (Speed) convince movie executives to invest vast sums of money in a project on the basis of almost no information. What is that makes urban myths so persistent but many everyday truths so eminently forgettable? How do newspapers set about ensuring that their headlines make you want to read on? And why do we remember complicated stories but not complicated facts? In the course of over ten years of study, Chip and Dan Heath have established what it is that determines whether particular ideas or stories stick in our minds or not, and Made to Stick is the fascinating outcome of their painstaking research. ![]() ![]() Then the ending was - well, it was out there. From Harper and Sebastian's reactions to each other to their conversations to their steamy scenes, it all felt forced. I guess it's because the characters are kind of at fate's mercy from the start, but even that didn't help this romance. The funny thing is that if I'm going to like a kidnap/hostage forced proximity romance, it's usually one with fated mates. I know they're supposed to be fated mates and all, so they should be the perfect match, but Harper and Sebastian just did not work for me. I'm not sure if it was the story or the narration or both here, but I just didn't feel it with this couple. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note: I’ll try not to be too spoiler-y about Any Way the Wind Blows, but since this is the 3rd book in a trilogy, there will be spoilers for the first two books.
